This project was in response to the food desert in the 3rd ward community. Located on emancipation street the location of the Grocery & Culinary Institute was ideal for a community that relies on public transportation, therefore the project would have to focus on pedestrians. The grocery store is located facing emancipation to allow for easy access to people and the cooking school is facing the less trafficked street for privacy. The bridge connecting the two programs holds the vertical garden that would supply the community with locally grown vegetables and fruits while also providing jobs. The market is an open floor plan with the second floor opening up to allow the bakery's smell to circulate throughout. Using existing architecture for geometry when massing, the shark tooth roof is a reference to the shotgun home in the neighborhood.
